Energuide Murb energy evaluations

About 24% of Canadians live in low-rise apartment buildings that are multi-residential buildings (MURBs) or mixed use buildings (MUBs). Significant opportunities exist to improve the energy efficiency of these buildings.

There exist complex geometries and challenges to doing energy evaluations for such buildings and therefore there is a need for simplified and easy-to-use procedures.

EnerGuide Energy Evaluation for MURBs/MUBs does exactly that! Significant potential to improve the energy efficiency of MURBs/MUBs:

– Insulation upgrades
– Air sealing
– Space heating system(s)
– Domestic hot water system(s)
– Windows and doors

Projected to improve the overall energy
efficiency by 15 to 30%

SB-12 Energy Design For New Homes

What is SB-12

SB-12 is Ontario’s regulatory approach to energy efficiency in new residential buildings, aiming to reduce energy consumption, promote sustainable building practices, and create cost savings for homeowners. It offers builders flexibility through different compliance paths while ensuring homes are built to rigorous efficiency standards.

SB-12 Prescriptive Path:

Builders must follow a list of predefined construction details and components, like insulation values, window performance, and HVAC equipment efficiency. This is the simplest approach and is essentially a checklist of requirements.

S-12 Performance Path:

This is a more flexible approach, where a home’s overall energy performance is modeled using software. If the energy model shows that the house meets or exceeds the energy efficiency performance required, it passes the SB-12 standard. Energy Star or Equivalent Certification: Builders can also comply by building homes to third-party standards like Energy Star, which already exceed SB-12 requirements.
